I have taken great pains not to laugh at the actions of aliens, nor to weep at them or to hate them, but to understand them.

Are Tau Battlesuits (such as the XV8 and the XV15/XV25) allowed to move their 6" (anywhere) during the assault phase after deep striking? The rules (as I know them) are that you cannot assault after deep striking, so does this apply to Battlesuit movement in the Assault Phase?

| My interpretation of this rule (and ones like this) is that you can't. The only deepstriking unit that can do anything during the assault phrase are Chaos Space Marine Generic Daemons who are specifically allowed to assault into combat when they are summoned.
They way I rationalise this is still an assault move and would it not be strange if you could move those six inches but not charge if a unit was close enough? It dosen't make sense and the move is still essentially an assault move although you are not required to actually engage as most units are. | | Back to top

| in my interoperation, they are allowed to make their jetpack move, the rules only state that they may not assault. nowhere does it state that they may not do anything in the assault phase. | | Back to top | |

I can see where your coming from as it says they can't assault and that it isn't an assault but it clearly states "may not move or assault on the turn they arrive" and says nothing about this movement taking place during the movement phase and so RAW you can't jump in the assault phase also it makes no sense to me that they could... If Tau rules say they can in the codex or an FAQ then yes but otherwise it would be a no from me. | | Back to top

| I had thought I saw a ruling on this somewhere but I can't find it at the moment. My understanding is that they cannot jump in the assault phase, for basically the reasons Helios gives.
I'll try and find the reference for that though.

| I had thought it was in the faq too, but it's not.

the "bloke at the local GW" is far from a definitive source! | | Back to top

| I know its different but GW just put some FAQs up for Eldar and Chaos (and will be doing others over the next few months) and Warp spiders can warp in the assault phase when they deep strike I know this is different but you know this now makes the waters murky as far as I'm concerned. | | Back to top | |
