I have taken great pains not to laugh at the actions of aliens, nor to weep at them or to hate them, but to understand them.

| I don't have the game, so I can't really comment on rules, but I have to say that role-playing in the 40K universe is about as unappealing as it can get.
I'd be interested in looking through the book if I knew someone who had it, and expanded fluff might be interesting, but no interest in actually playing it.
That's just me though.

| Why do you say that? What makes it so unappealing to you? I personaly think that it has endless, interesting possiblites. Theres more to Warhammer then huge planet wide conflicts envolving vast armies... | | Back to top | |

| The Faster than light travel in the universe is slow and dangerous, discouraging travel. The Xenophobia of the imperium discourages diverse character parties. I don't like the heavy gothic flavor to things. GW gives everything such a humanocentric slant that the really interesting parts are shoved to the side. I vastly prefer optimistic games and the whole tone of the warhammer universe is one of hopelessness and pointlessness.
Also, I have no faith in GW or whoever they farmed it out to, producing a good rules set. RPG rules are a delicate balance between differing play styles and GW tends to use a sledgehammer when designing rules and seems to be about 15 years behind the times in their understanding of game design theory.
All that is just my opinion though. If you and your friends enjoy playing it, then rock on!! More power to ya.

Isn't that why a lot of people choose non-imperial (read Tau) races to play with? I especially choose the Tau for it's versatility. I agree with you about the humanocentric (nice word) view on everything, but that leaves a lot of space left untouched to do non-human RPG'ing.

| But Dark Heresy is specifically about playing inquisition.

| I am not familiar with the Dark Heresy games, so would it be possible to play Xeno characters? How much room is there to free-style? (I own the Inquisitor Tau Water Caste Envoy model, which i think could be great for using in inquisitorial games (which i haven't played BTW)

| Sorry, lets clarify. Its not Inquisitor scale, the idea is that you are serving under the command of an Inquisitor. However i do not see why this set of rules could not be used to play for example a Tau based campaign with Tau and Kroot player characters directly serving an Ethereal. I just believe that this game has more possibilities to it then it seems at first glance. | | Back to top | |

The Gue\'vesa followers of Khorne killed my team, my father and burned me when i was a Shas\'la.
Now I am a Shas\'el. I strive to end the followers of Korne. The fire that burned me still burns in the deepest place in my heart. It forever shall burn. I am now known as the Burning knight.
