Tau in kill team

Tau get totally boned by the kill team rules.
Anyone else think this?
Let's start with the kill team itself. Kill teams are supposed to be small squads of stealthy, covert ops specialists, frequently with a bit of a rogue, mavericky attitude. Not exactly Tau like.
But wait, we do have a unit that matches that description almost exactly, stealth teams. Unfortunatly we can't take stealth teams as a kill team without violating at least 5 instances of a mutable law. That's alot of extra points for the bad guys. Maybe it's worth it, but it seems like the stealth suits are pushing the limits of what a kill time is meant to be.
That basically leaves up with Fire Warriors, Kroot, or Vespid.
Kroot and Vespid may be very effective kill teams, but they don't exactly feel like a TAU kill team, and fire warriors on their own not particularly stunning troops.
It just doesn't seem like we have alot of options for cool and effective kill teams.
Then there is our brute squads GUN DRONES!!!!
yeah, it works with the fluff, that's what the Tau would use to patrol the perimiter, but kill teams can't be pinned, most of the time the drones can't JSJ, they got lousy BS they are worse than FWs in H2H. WTF!!!!????
I understand the rules have to be somewhat limiting to work with all the armies but I can barely see a reason to even play Tau in a kill team scenario.
Am I wrong in this?

| Yeah, youre right. I tried playing in a killteam group with my Tau and I lost almost every game. It is extremely hard to play with the Tau and win.

| Well, first off I don't know what you're complaining about Gun Drones as Brutes for, since the only option that might be better would be Kroot. FW v GD BS: GD. tl BS 2 will hit more than BS 3 CC: GD. Same WS, S, T, A, Ld, and Sv - but have the same I as Marines.
Second off, yeah, it's a tough gig for the Tau.

| Well you can ask you friends if they think anything else is acceptable. For example Tyranids didn't do so great with kill team rules so GW did some additional upgrades they could take and allowed them to break 1 law for free. If your friends think this kind of thing is fair the might allow you.
If your friends are like me they want to win but they want a strong game not where they walkover and so they may allow you to do stuff but you should talk with them. Or maythey will will let you take peices of wargear with a fire warrior squad (like some kind of elite commandos) | | Back to top | |

| Well, I have actually played a game of kill team now and, as I expected, I got slaughtered.
He had a kill team of 12 Ork boyz and I only managed to kill 3 of them before all of my brute squads were destroyed. I did have one drone survive more than 44 close combat attacks before dying though. That was cool.

Now if your looking for a Tau kill-team this won't be any good... however its tau themed :>. Can I suggest using a squad of Imperial Guard veterans (one of my kill-teams that does fairly well except on some of the stupid missions they put in WD ages ago.). Obviously you could do them as human helpers or (and I know the stats won't be right) a squad of pimped out Kroot which have maybe just come back with all the loot from mercing (also note you can take doctorines for the squad such as carapace armour or the stealth cloak things.)

| i would personally use stealth teams, xv-15s look quite fitting IMO for an elite infiltrator squad.

| Except one of the mutable laws is that no weapons in the team may fire more than 2 shots or have S greater than 6.
So stealths would end up breaking that law, like 5 times.
Of course, it might be worth it, stealths rock.

| exactly... with all their bonuses like stealth fields and JSJ i would imagine that each stealth is worth giving your opponent an extra mob | | Back to top | |

| Possibly. Though I don't know if the stealth field will be all that useful. Since spotting distance for the brute squads is so low it seems like most shooting is going to take place at pretty close range.
Still, the 3+ save would be nice, and JSJ should help alot in some of the hit and run type missions.
